Protect Your Property and Avoid Costly Consequences
Installing solar power is an investment in energy independence, but have you checked whether your system meets the applicable electrical safety and registration requirements?
Across Johannesburg, Midrand and Tshwane, solar system owners need to understand their responsibilities for electrical compliance and, where applicable, municipal or electricity-provider registration and approval.
Non-compliance can have serious consequences. Depending on the circumstances and applicable local requirements, these may include enforcement notices, additional costs, requirements to rectify or disconnect an unauthorised installation, and potential complications with insurance claims or property transactions.
There is no single nationwide fine that applies to every unregistered solar system. Requirements and enforcement measures vary according to the relevant municipality or electricity distributor and the type of installation. However, overlooking compliance can expose property owners to unnecessary costs, delays and safety risks.
A compliant installation is about more than avoiding penalties. It helps protect your family, employees, property and investment while ensuring that your electrical system meets the relevant safety requirements.
Don’t wait for a compliance issue to become an expensive problem. Mzansi Green Solutions can assess your existing solar installation, identify potential compliance shortcomings and recommend the appropriate remedial action.

Solar Compliance in Johannesburg, Midrand & Tshwane
Do You Know What Your Solar Installation Requires?
Solar compliance requirements depend on your property’s location, the type of installation and how your system operates. In addition to electrical safety requirements, grid-connected and hybrid systems may need approval or registration with the relevant electricity distributor, even where surplus electricity is not being exported back into the grid.
Johannesburg and Midrand
Properties supplied by City Power may be subject to the City of Johannesburg’s solar PV and Small-Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) application requirements. Properties supplied directly by Eskom must follow the applicable Eskom process. Depending on the installation, relevant documentation may include an electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC), technical diagrams, equipment specifications and other supporting information.
Tshwane (Pretoria and surrounding areas)
Solar installations within the City of Tshwane’s electricity supply area are subject to the applicable municipal requirements. Properties supplied directly by Eskom must follow the relevant Eskom process. Where applicable, registration and approval are important steps towards ensuring that a solar installation operates safely and in accordance with the relevant requirements.

Solar Compliance Audits
Not sure whether your existing solar installation meets the applicable requirements? Our solar compliance auditing service helps identify potential electrical safety risks, installation defects and compliance shortcomings that may need attention.
Following the assessment, we can advise on identified issues and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
Our assessments can include relevant aspects of your installation, such as:
Solar Remedial & Corrective Services
If your solar installation has defects or does not meet the applicable requirements, we can assist with the necessary remedial work to address the identified issues.
Depending on the findings, this may include correcting wiring faults, addressing electrical protection deficiencies, rectifying installation defects and making other necessary electrical adjustments.
Our aim is to help bring your installation into compliance with the applicable requirements while improving electrical safety, system reliability and confidence in your solar investment.

Electrical Certificates of Compliance (CoCs)
A Certificate of Compliance is an important record of the safety and compliance of an electrical installation. It may be required for new electrical work, alterations to existing installations and certain property transactions.
As a registered electrical contractor, Mzansi Green Solutions can undertake the relevant inspections and testing and issue a CoC where the installation meets the applicable regulatory requirements.
If faults or defects are identified, these must be addressed before the relevant certificate can be issued. We can assist with the remedial work required to resolve identified issues.
Please note: A CoC is issued only when the applicable inspection, testing and compliance requirements have been satisfied. A solar compliance audit does not, by itself, constitute certification of an installation.
